Flux de CO2 dans les lagunes (Aby et Ebrié) de la Côte d'Ivoire. OceanDocs

Les données de CO2 obtenues pendant deux campagnes dans les lagunes Aby et Ebrié montrent que ces écosystèmes sont très hétérogènes en terme de dynamique de CO2. Alors que la lagune Ebrié est sursaturée de CO2 vis-à-vis de l'atmosphère , la lagune Aby quant à elle est sous saturée en CO2 à cause d'une forte production phytoplanctonique caractérisée par des valeurs élevées de chlorophylle a dans la colonne d'eau. Ces résultats ne permettent pas par conséquent de conclure si les lagunes sont des sources ou des puits de CO2. Cependant, ils mettent en exergue l'importance de ces milieux dans les bilans globaux de CO2 surtout dans les régions tropicales. Ils soulignent aussi l'importance de la diversité des écosystèmes côtiers dans le cycle global du carbone.

Interaction between an eddy and a zonal jet - Part I. One-and-a-half-layer model ArchiMer

The interaction between a stable zonal jet and a vortex is studied numerically with two one-and-a-half layer models, one with quasi-geostrophic dynamics, the other with shallow-water equations. In both models, simulations on the f-plane evidence three regimes occuring with increasing vortex strength: (regime 1) weak vortices do not cross the jet and steadily drift along it; (regime 2) stronger vortices cross the jet, tear an opposite-sign meander from the jet with which they pair as a dipole; the trajectory of this dipole depends on the strength of the initial vortex; since most dipoles are asymmetric, they veer back towards the jet axis where they are split apart in the ambient shear; (regime 3) even stronger vortices cross the jet and tear a vorticity...

Interaction between an eddy and a zonal jet - Part II. Two-and-a-half-layer model ArchiMer

In a two-and-a-half-layer quasi-geostrophic model, a process study is conducted on the interaction between a vortex and a zonal jet, both with constant potential vorticity. The vortex is a stable anticyclone, initially located north of the eastward jet. The potential vorticity of the jet is allowed to have various vertical structures, while the vortex is concentrated in only one layer. The flow parameters are set to values characteristic of the Azores region. First, the jet is stable. Weak vortices steadily drift north of the jet without crossing it while strong vortices can cross the jet and tear off a cyclone with which they pair as a heton (baroclinic dipole). Multiple jets of the Antarctic circumpolar current South of Australia ArchiMer

Maps of the gradient of sea surface height (SSH) and sea surface temperature (SST) reveal that the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) consists of multiple jets or frontal filaments. The braided and patchy nature of the gradient fields seems at odds with the traditional view, derived from hydrographic sections, that the ACC is made up of three continuous circumpolar fronts. By applying a nonlinear fitting procedure to 638 weekly maps of SSH gradient (del SSH), it is shown that the distribution of maxima in del SSH (i.e., fronts) is strongly peaked at particular values of absolute SSH (i.e., streamlines). The mid-depth ocean circulation in the tropical Pacific is dominated by sets of alternating eastward and westward jets. The origin and transport properties of these flow features remain in many ways an open question, all the more crucial since their usual underestimation in ocean global circulation model has been identified as a potential bias for the misrepresentation of the oxygen minimum zones. In this study, we analyze the water mass properties associated with these systems of jets using velocity and hydrographic sections. ABSTRACT The first three jets of the sperm-rich fraction of Pêga jackasses were collected and assessed separately. Five fertile Pêga jackasses were used as semen donors and underwent fractionated semen collection, using an open model artificial vagina. The first three jets of the semen were collected separately and assessed for volume, sperm motility, vigor, concentration/mL of semen, and sperm morphology. These characteristics were compared between first, second and third jets and between jackasses. The Southwest Pacific Ocean Circulation and Climate Experiment (SPICE) is an international research program under the auspices of CLIVAR. The key objectives are to understand the Southwest Pacific Ocean circulation and the South Pacific Convergence Zone (SPCZ) dynamics, as well as their influence on regional and basin-scale climate patterns. South Pacific thermocline waters are transported in the westward flowing South Equatorial Current (SEC) toward Australia and Papua-New Guinea.
